Funding

Funding for environmental sustainability projects is available for staff and students across the University and is administered by individual Faculties. All students can also apply for funding through the Students’ Union.

Faculty of Science and Engineering

Better World Funding enables staff and students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering to bid for up to £3,000 for projects that ‘make a difference’ and support the University’s social responsibility agenda. To find out more and apply visit Better World Funding.

Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health

Details of funding for students and staff in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health can be found on the funding opportunities page. Examples include funding for social responsibility in the curriculum, engaging our communities and an outreach fund. The maximum award available is £2,000.

Faculty of Humanities

Funding opportunities for staff and students in the Faculty of Humanities can be found on the social responsibility funding page. Funding opportunities are available at various times of the year of up to £2,000 for engaging with our communities and social responsibility in the curriculum.

Students’ Union

The Students’ Union established the UMSU Steve Biko Sustainability Fund with a £50,000 grant from the University. The fund is open to all students who would like to undertake any sustainability/ethics related projects but are financially constrained to do so. The Steve Biko Sustainability Fund will provide up to a maximum of £500 to an individual or a team of students whose project proposal is selected. To apply visit Steve Biko Sustainability Fund.
