Trains and trams

There are three main train stations in the city centre and a network of tram stops to facilitate travel across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Find your way around with the following useful information.

Trains and trams station

  • Manchester Piccadilly A few minutes’ walk from north campus and either a 20 minute walk or journey on the 147 bus to main campus.
  • Manchester Oxford Road A five minutes walk to north campus and either a 10-15 minute walk to main campus or journey by one of the vast number of buses.
  • Manchester Victoria A 25 minute walk or a tram journey from Piccadilly.

  • National Rail Train times, fares, stations, destinations and service disruptions.
  • Metrolink Network map, tram times, tickets, stop information and service updates.

Trains and trams tickets

  • Interest free loans These are available to support the purchase of public transport annual season tickets.
  • Free tram travel Travel free on Metrolink trams in the city zone if you have bought a rail ticket for travel from any Greater Manchester station to a city zone station (request a Metrolink add-on free of charge when purchasing your rail ticket).
  • Combined tram and rail tickets Buy one ticket for the complete journey if it includes travel on trains and trams to a Metrolink stop beyond a city zone station.
  • System One travelcard If you are travelling on a number of modes such as train, tram or bus using different operators it may be better value to use a System One Travelcard.
  • Get me there Smart ticketing services for travelling around Greater Manchester by public transport.
  • Plus Bus Discounted ticket for unlimited local bus travel that you buy with your train ticket.
