Manchester is My Planet

Manchester is My Planet

Since 2005, Manchester is my Planet has been working in partnership with Local Authorities, universities, businesses and over 20,000 individuals towards a low carbon future for our region. Through the pledge campaign, encouraging individuals to reduce their carbon footprint, and a number of innovative green energy projects, Manchester is my Planet aims to make Manchester the coolest and greenest city on earth.

City and Region

We are fortunate that the City of Manchester, the several Authorities making up Greater Manchester, and the North West region are all leading the way in their commitment to sustainability. This commitment is enshrined in the bold climate change action plan published by the North West Development Agency, entitled “Rising to the Challenge”. Manchester is the first city in the world to publish its own “Mini-Stern Report”, which takes the challenges posed by the influential Stern Review (on The Economics of Climate Change) and applies them to Greater Manchester. At grass roots level, the City is encouraging personal commitment through its “Manchester is My Planet” scheme, while a local, Hulme-based charity promotes “Action for Sustainable Living”.
