Environmental Sustainability

Environmental reps in halls of residence

Why not become your halls environmental rep. Environmental reps in halls of residence have responsibility to organise events that raise environmental awareness. They are the main contact regarding any new campaigns that Residential Services or your Residents Association committee choose to promote. It is their job to set up a team of volunteers within their hall who can help and support the arranged activities. Key environmental themes we would like you to focus on is resource use- reusing items and promoting recycling, energy and water saving, cycling, walking, nature, food and volunteering in the community.

As part of being an environmental rep, you can also bid for funding through the halls green fund. Residents Associations that are actively engaged with raising awareness of Environmental Sustainability can bid for funding for environmental improvements in their halls. Some of the previous projects have included replacement of hallway lights to LED equivalent with sensors, improved cycle storage and biodiversity gardens. It is up to the halls RA to decide what to bid for and successful bids can see their projects finished before the end of the academic year, giving you, the resident a chance to enjoy what you have achieved.
